State Of The Art: Ideas And Images in the 1980s

State of the Art was a remarkable, authoritative and challenging series of documentaries about the visual arts in the 1980s, made by Sandy Nairne for Channel 4 and Illuminations. Other artists featured include Joseph Beuys, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cindy Sherman, Hans Haacke and Eric Fischl. The film about Hodgkin includes a conversation and a sequence filmed in his exhibition of paintings at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1985.
